SUMMARY:Can We Be Friends? The Power of Cross-Racial Friendships in a Divided World
DESCRIPTION:Women have always been involved in social change one person at a time\, one conversation at a time. Join the Lorain Historical Society and the Lorain County Urban League as they co-host a luncheon conversation featuring Deborah Plummer\, PhD and Lori Stevic Rust\, PhD. Learn more about the power of cross-racial friendships as a way to heal our divided world.\n\nMeet Deborah Plummer\, PhD author of the recently-published book Some of My Friends Are : The Daunting Challenges and Untapped Benefits of Cross-Racial Friendships and her friend Lori Stevic Rust author of Lily's Shoes of Courage. Both authors will have their books available to purchase\, will talk in a conversation format\, and take questions from the audience. The luncheon concludes with a table conversation and a call to action from the audience.\n\nReservations required:\n\nThe luncheon begins at 11 am on Saturday\, March 21 at the Spectrum Vocational Center\, located at 713 W. 5th St.\, Lorain. Tickets can be purchased at www.eventbrite.com. Reservations are due March 13.\n\nProgramming Note:\n\nThis year marks the 100th Anniversary of the Ratification of the 19th Amendment\, granting women the right to vote. We have chosen to entitle our commemoration of this centennial "Beyond the 19th Amendment." Our programs this year focus on stories of women\, many of them from Lorain\, who worked to improve their community during the time period leading up to and following the passing of the amendment.
