LOCATION: Avon Lake, Ohio (onsite) 

SALARY RANGE: $54,000-$62,000/year based on interview outcome and qualifications

JOB SUMMARY:

The Environmental Specialist is responsible for the environmental compliance

throughout ASI. This function will include developing, implementing, maintaining, and

auditing written programs, policies and procedures. As a specialist, this position is

responsible for compliance with environmental rules, obtaining permits, document

environmental compliance, and training. This position includes drafting environmental

reports for government agencies, preparing paperwork for registrations of biocides, and

arranging disposal of the company's hazardous, special, and universal wastes. This

position may assist with ESG data collection and reporting.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performing, reporting results, and documenting environmental audits and inspections with follow-up for all operations and technical sales/services.
  • Understanding environmental regulations and corporate environmental programs to help operations and technical sales/services to implement applicable programs to their facilities and jobs including reporting and documentation of gaps and corrective actions.
  • Performing training, assigning and assisting with on-line/external safety training. Assist supervision with mentoring programs at the facility.
  • Complete Job/Process Hazard Analysis (JHAs/PHAs) and risk assessments in regard to environmental laws and regulations.
  • Assist with ESG and product/material life cycle programs.
  • Responsible for document generation and control associated with environmental programs including third-party contractor services for clients and subcontractors’ safety reviews.
  • Maintain compliance with RCRA, FIFRA, TSCA, CWA, CAA, and similar EPA programs.
  • Performing accident/incident/illness/injury/near miss investigations and involve workers and supervision.
  • Responsible for assisting with and/or drafting procedures, work instructions, forms, and reports relating to the safety program and operating documents.
  • To support the establishment and functioning of the health and safety committee(s) in regard to environmental compliance.
  • Assist HR with general duties, discipline, investigation and corrective actions concerning environmental, safety and personnel related issues.
  • Compliances with all ANSI, EPA, DOT, FDA, and DOL (OSHA/MSHA/EEOC, etc.) regulations and company policy including government reporting and hazardous/special/universal wastes.
  • Reports all accidents, injuries, illnesses, spills and other incidents to supervisor and applicable personnel.
  • Adhere to ISO documents and meet company / department quality, environmental, OH&S policy and objectives.
  • Travel up to 25% required. 

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in occupational safety or related science discipline OR 3+ years of experience in the field of safety. 
  • Safety Certification (CSP, ASP, SMP, STS, CIH, CET) or OSHA 501/511 or similar certification preferred.
  • 3+ years of EHS responsibilities with or without management/supervisory experience.
  • 3+ years of working knowledge of OSHA, DOT and/or EPA experience.
  • Ability to work in a detailed and some high-paced environment without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to teach small groups.
  • Having the ability to train in a large group is preferred.
  • Ability to perform hazard recognition and reporting.
  • Use of Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with safety systems and contractor boards like Avetta, ISN, Ecoline, H.S.I., KPA, or similar systems.
  • Travel up to 25%.

 

Licensing & Special Requirements

  • Incumbent is subject to a criminal background check.
  • A driver’s license is required for any transportation that may be necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is primarily performed within ASI’s warehouse, office, and production area. This position will be expected and required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas and while on-site. Physical ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds is required. The incumbent should be able to pull, push, twist, balance, and move with general ease. Hiring is conditional upon background check.
