The Nord Center

About Us

The Nord Center was founded in 1947 to provide psychiatric services to the people of Lorain County. It was named in 1970 in honor of Walter G. Nord (1884-1967), founder of Nordson Corporation, and lifelong supporter of the agency’s services and mental health initiatives to help all citizens of Lorain County.

Today The Nord Center is a non-profit community mental health center offering prevention, treatment and advocacy serving approximately 7,500 people per year. Core services are adult behavioral health, child and adolescent behavioral health, sexual assault services, residential services and crisis services.

Since the 1980s, the agency has been known for its commitment to a diverse array of evidence-based practices; that is, it strives to provide services that are well known to be effective for the conditions it is trying to treat including: Brief Solution Focused Therapy; Cognitive Processing Therapy; Dialectical Behavioral Therapy; Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EDMR); Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment; Motivational Interviewing; Supported Employment; Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; and Wellness Management and Recovery.
